Two of my girlfriends were getting married the summer of 2016 and I thought how wonderful it would be for them to have a perfume that held the memories of their special day. I had never looked into the science of scent & memory before, but every summer the scent of lilac would remind me of playing in the backyard with my sister as a little girl. I knew scent had the power to conjure up memories and as the idea developed, I spent many hours researching which lead to the realization that this idea was possible. So here we are today and I couldn’t be happier!
As detailed in the next q&a, our brains create connections between scent and experiences. Your photographer is at the top of your vendor list because you want to remember the experiences of your wedding day for years to come. So imagine the photographs are like watching the movie of your wedding day and scent association is like reading the book - your inherent memories will come flooding back as you inhale the perfume time & time again.
Our sense of smell, more so than any other sense, is so closely linked to the part of our brain that processes emotion and memory. When you first smell a new scent, you link it to a person, place, event or moment. Your brain forges a link between the smell and a memory. This natural connection gives us the opportunity to consciously associate a fragrance to an event or experience in our life for later recollection.

It’s important to wear a perfume that is completely new on your wedding day. That way, your brain hasn’t been introduced to it yet therefore not making any connections or memories from the past.
The scent is compounded/created in Grasse, France and is mixed, filtered and bottled in Alberta, Canada.
Applying perfume to parts of the body that naturally warm up will encourage the scent to drift into the air. The décolletage, your wrists, inside your elbows, behind your knees, and even around your ankles. Lastly, don’t forget to spritz your hair as the strands will hold the scent making the fragrance last longer.
Remembering to apply perfume on your wedding day probably won't be your top priority but doing so as often as you can is best! Each time you spritz the perfume, your brain locks in your surroundings and associates it with that scent. At the very least, remember to smell your wrists as often as you can, it’ll only make the scent association stronger and therefor the wedding memories too!
Ethanol - Preserves, blends & stabilizes ingredients as well as disperses the scent molecules into the air.
Water - Slows evaporation and softens the drying effect of alcohol on the skin.
Dipropylene Glycol - Helps the scent to last longer on the skin.
Given the natural components in The Wedding Perfume, it is best to keep it away from direct sunlight, heat or freezing temperatures. Until your wedding day, keep the perfume in its box to ensure ideal conditions. Natural materials react differently to the elements so slight discolouration may occur over time. This is in no way an indication of decrease in quality and is still safe for wear.
No. The Wedding Perfume is a mix of natural botanical extracts (essential oils & absolutes) and nature identical molecules which are modeled after natural molecules but made in a lab. I chose to create the fragrance this way as one of the most important factors was longevity given that brides were not likely to reapply multiple times throughout their wedding day. Completely natural fragrances do not have the tenacity to hold up for many hours like a perfume composed of a mixed palette of both naturals and synthesized molecules. The perfume was created under strict IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards, plus EU safety regulations, which combined are of the highest standard in the world for safety. Creating with natural ingredients is very important to me, so we have kept the percentage of naturals at a maximum level while still respecting how the fragrance performs in regard to longevity on the skin.
The Wedding Perfume is 100% cruelty-free and any new products created within Coulombe Perfume will always be cruelty-free. Animal welfare is as important as anything else within this company.
No animal products are used in The Wedding Perfume. Though, during distillation or extraction of the plants, there is no guarantee that no insects are in the plants, so really, very technically, it can't be called vegan.
